By: Caleb Weeks The 2019 Dexter Regional High School Track team is looking a little unstable this year. They’re losing senior Danielle Cummings who had a great year in her running events such as the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 13.38 sec & 200m Dash 27.37 sec and with height of 4’6” for high jump. Also top performer for boys junior Cameron Paige last year qualified for 3 events in States might not be rejoining the team because of personal issues. But on the positive side, seniors Dillion Allen, Caleb Weeks, and David Kirshkaln are going to be huge factors to the team again this year. Senior David Kirshkaln is looking forward to this upcoming track season after recovering from an ACL injury in a football game against Mt. View this past fall. “Seasons going to be good. We have some good athletes returning in running and throwing events also with jumping.” Kirshkaln stated, “I’m looking forward for discus and javelin because last year I started to get into the groove with both. I’m hoping for a good season with the shot put in looking to get over 40. Hopefully we will get a couple state champs.” Senior Autumn Irwin is looking forward to placing again in the 100m, shot put and the 4x1. “I think our team will do better than last year.” Irwin stated, “I think that all the people who normally place, will place and we will have a good long distance team.” Coach Haggie Pratt is excited about this years track team and is looking forward to a fun season. “I think we have a shot at placing a girls 4 by 100 meter relay team in the PVC championships and in the state meet. I think we have a couple of throwers that may do well but I think our depth and our strengths will be in the sprinting and jumping events for both boys and girls teams.” 2018 Track and Field Preview By: Lily Cummings This year’s track season is looking good as about 25 student-athletes have signed-up. Returning team members who had successful years last year are senior Rebecca Batron who had a great year in the shot-put, juniors Danielle Cummings in running events such as the 100 and 200 meter dash, David Kirshkaln in the shot-put, and Dillion Allen in the long-jump. Senior Rebecca Batron says, “We don’t have as many athletes on the team this year but I’m looking forward to a fun and exciting season.” Most of the participants are underclassmen and there are many new athletes being introduced to the sport of track. Hopefully track will uprise within the years and attract more people.
