The Dexter High School Girls Basketball team is coming off a very successful season in 2016/2017; making it to the regional final and winning but falling short to Monmouth in the state title game. The team is hungry to get back to the state title game, but will have to do so with a young team. They lost six seniors, only have two seniors returning this year and very few younger players with varsity experience; it’s going to be a tough rebuilding year for the Tigers. In speaking with Coach Grant concerning what he thought about this upcoming season, he said, “The most important thing during the pre- season, especially with a young team, is to get in good basketball shape.” Since this is such a young team, the roles on the team would probably change from last year. Coach Grant added, “I’m not 100% sure (about the roles this year), it’s hard to tell who is going to do what with a younger team. The seniors are going to have to step up and lead this younger team.” When asking Coach Grant about expectations on the upcoming season, he replied, “I never have any expectation on an upcoming season because you never know what’s going to happen, especially with a younger and new team.” The Tigers have a very young team this year having four freshman and only two seniors. Kaitlin Webber and Becca Batron are the two seniors on this years team and played an important role on last years regional championship team. Kaylee Deering, Addy Herrick, Tory Asbury, Abby Paige and Danielle Cummings round out the juniors on the roster. Only a few underclassmen finish up the roster in Avery Herrick, Peyton Grant, Abby Wakefeild, Cheyenne Beem and sophomore Cloe Mountain. It’s going to be a difficult season for the Tigers, but also fun to watch. Provided by Jacob Bickford 2017-2018 Girls Basketball Results 2/24/18
