2019 Woman’s Soccer Preview
Dexter Girls Soccer lost many key players from last year's senior class. With the upcoming 2019 season we have a large number of incoming freshmen. There are five returning starters from last season, with many positions needing to be filled in the field. Multiple players are stepping up to fill these positions, some playing in positions they never have before.
Returning seniors leading the team are Cloe Mountain and Caitlyn Hardy. Being the only two seniors, they’re expected to step up and become the leaders of the team. The two seniors have been starting varsity since freshman year and they are ready to accept this role and commitment of leading the team for their final year. Mountain says, “I expect this to be a growing season, hoping to grow as a team and as individual players.”
With a large number of freshmen coming into the new season, a few of them have been expected to take on a big role and fill open positions. A few freshmen that have stepped up are, Jillean Poliquin, Sydney Fogler, Sydney Dyson, and Aleaha Richards. While transitioning from Middle School soccer to High School is a challenge, they have accepted this and are improving with each practice and game.
Two big rivals for the girl's soccer team are Orono and Central. These two teams have been a good challenge for the Lady Tigers in the past. Two years ago, the girl's soccer defeated Orono at Dexter’s field for the first time in years. It’s expected that Orono and Central will still be rivals for the girl's soccer and a challenge.
Dexter Girls Soccer players are still settling in, while coaches are figuring out positions and formations. Many players are ready to jump into the season and start playing. The next two months are going to be busy and competitive for not only the girl's soccer but other teams as well.
